Adams Fairacre Farms
Back in 1919, Ralph A. Adams and Mary Rogers Adams bought 50 acres of farmland on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, New York, where they began selling fresh produce to local retailers. By 1933, their farmstand was thriving, and they had four children - Diana, Dorothy, Ralph, and Donald. The establishment of Adams Fairacre Farms followed.
Initially, the farm only sold fruits and vegetables, but as time passed, customers requested additional products. According to Donald, the eldest son, "Once you sell the produce, they want cheese, then meats, then a deli. It was a slow, natural progression." As they had supplies for the farm, people started requesting fertilizers or plants, prompting the addition of the garden center.
Eventually, Ralph and Donald, the two sons, took over the business and upheld the family tradition of providing top-quality products and excellent customer service. Nowadays, Donald's sons, Patrick and Steven, are at the helm, driving the company forward.
